Word play, poetry forms, doodling & more
When I was a kid, I played a game at the kitchen table with my Dad. He would ask me to scribble-draw a shape on paper and then ask me to “make” something out of it.
It was a fun game that I loved. Doodling helped me think imaginatively with pictures, but also with words. What was it that I was creating? This game is the seed of the poetry doodle. Using a poetic technique and drawing a doodle can be a fun approach to writing a poem, or simply word and picture play.
I often like to work on a poem in a notebook. Any sort will do, folded pieces of paper, lined, unlined, store bought or handmade. Below are some creative doodle and notebook activities, you might like to try too.
