Poetry Friday, Junk Journal Invitation… Let’s Create and Share
Junk journals, art journals, poetry and creative writing are some of the ways, I enjoy digging into creative expression. I’ve been delighted to hear from many of you that you enjoy this too! So I thought it would be fun to a make a Junk Journal Style: “Poetry Pocket.” If you’d like to join the informal Zoom session, email me (information below.) I’ll share some junk journal ideas and we’ll create a poetry pocket together. No junk journaling experience necessary…just some creative time using simple supplies to make a fun pocket that could go into any journal.
I’ve been reading through some of my older journals lately. Here’s a poem I found tucked in one of my Altered Books (a children’s thesaurus from 1968.) “Foldable Friend” is a doodle style poem. This style of poem is something I’m working on for poetry workshops with students. As I flipped the pages, I found some scribble doodles in the book that I forgot I made:) A journal is a wonderful memory keeper!

This looks like such a fun project. (And I’m going to return to the idea of Altered Books sometime when I’m not down the writing rabbit hole.) What fun to return to this and find your own doodles! And I love the “Call now!” tone of the second stanza of the poem – a lifetime of company from a folded friend is good practice for learning to journal in truth!
Hi Tanita, yes to altered books when you have time, and it seems from your post you’ve got a lot on your plate (in a good way:) Sorry, I still can’t post to your blog, it won’t let me log in, but know I appreciate your work from afar! It is so interesting to revisit your own work and thoughts in a journal, feelings and insights from that particular time. I love that “bringing you back” feeling that journals can give us. Michelle, thanks, love all forms of journaling and for me a junk journal/altered book is like diving into the rabbit hole:) I know finding time is tricky, but hope there’s some more creative time in your future!

I have Some Starry Night getting to the top of my summer reading pile, after I finish The Calamity Club by Kathryn Stockett which is a wonderful, but really long book!

Your junk journal workshop sounds like such creative fun. I need to learn more about this! Unfortunately my schedule is a bit too schedule-y these days, so I can’t make it. Thanks also for the nudge to revisit my notebooks/journals. I’ve been meaning to do that this summer!
Molly, yes those schedule-y schedules got me most of the month too! Hope for another creative time. Revisiting notebooks/journals is always interesting to me, hope something fun or interesting happens when you revisit yours:) You may, like me, find a poem you’ve forgotten you’ve written, lol.
