Poetry Friday/Poetry Notebooks/Mixed Media
Happy Poetry Friday! This week is hosted by Patricia J. Franz @reverie. Check out her beautiful poem, using the “Golden Hinge” form, as well as, her stunning pics. More wonderful Poetry Friday inspiration is found in the links there too.
Today’s Haiku is part of a little window, mixed media piece, made with some handmade paper, white gel pen and black cardstock:
Flight
egg-toothed victories
nests chirp-coo, new lullabies
fledglings dream of flight
I enjoy playing with themes in my poetry and my altered books. The theme of windows and doors seems to come up again and again for me. I took a look back at one of my altered books. The door on the left is in a place I have visited multiple times. Just like the patina on the door, I feel different nuances of thought and feeling when I visit there in different seasons or even times of life. I hope poetry does that for us too. When we read the same poem at different times, in our lives, perhaps there is a patina, a little nuance that only that time of life can bring.
Hope the month of May continues to inspire lots of creativity and poetry:) Jill

Jill, I so enjoy your collage art poems! In “Flight,” you’ve left me listening for the lullabies of nestlings here in my forest. But there is also something about the dove, through an open window, revealing a world of color… Makes me want to inhale, exhale, and smile. Thank you!
Thank you, Patricia! Your response to the poem was so delightful to think about. I appreciate your lovely thoughts and kind words responding to the words and art:) You definitely made me smile!
Love those egg-toothed victories! Thanks, Jill. xo
Thanks Irene, birds have been on my mind lately and glad the little egg-toothed victories, found a home in the Haiku this week:)
I love the sounds of the nests cooing with new life. Thanks for sharing your junk journal pages. Having a topic/theme is a great way to stay focused, yet open to possibilities.
Thank you, Margaret:) I agree a topic/theme often leads down a path of discovery. Love a great starting point, especially helps on days when the blank page stares back!
Your collages are gorgeous! Such fun to pair your art with your poetry!
Thank you, Mary Lee! I’m enjoying the playful exploration of poetry and art:)
I am a big fan of windows and doors, too! There’s something so appealing about their transitional nature. I love “egg-toothed victories” 🙂
Thanks Tabatha, glad to know windows and doors resonate with you too:) Yes, I think their transitional nature is a big part of what makes me a fan too!
ooooooh, I do love a good window or door to play with in a mixed-media piece. Those straight edges open to possibilities — or not are irresistible! I love egg-toothed victories. Baby birds for the spring win!
Hi Linda, thank you:) Yes, I can see your creativity in poetry and in mixed media opening up lots of artful possibilities. Hope you have a wonderful week, and I know this must be a very busy time for you! Wishing you the best:) Jill
Hi, Jill! You had me at “doors and windows” (love using those in my art as well), and your last sentence, “When we read the same poem at different times, in our lives, perhaps there is a patina, a little nuance that only that time of life can bring.” — beautiful! And true, true, true. :0)
Hi Robyn, yes to “doors and windows,” and glad to know your art is inspired by them too! Happy the last sentence resonated with you as well:) Isn’t it interesting how a poem can be reintroduced to us through different times in our lives and mean something a little different each time:)
Jill, the collages are so vivid and free-spirited. Perhaps you would consider adding the image poem to the Spring Seeds Grace April Padlet. Your artwork would be a beautiful addition to the gallery. Thank you for adding your comment to me at the padlet.
Thank you, Carol and thanks for the padlet invitation:) I added the Flight Haiku/art to your beautiful Spring Seeds of Grace. So fun and inspirational to see your spring gallery! Happy writing and creating to you:)
